THE PRIOLO AND THE LAURel FOREST

The Priolo was once one of the most endangered birds in Europe, being on the verge of extinction when the first efforts to conserve this unique bird of the Azores began. Today it is possible to observe more priolos in the Lands of Priolo but it is a work that must be maintained to ensure the survival of this unique natural value and its habitat. Thus, through these proposals for activities on the priolo and the laurel forest, we intend to: disclose the natural habitats existing in the Special Protection Area (SPA) Pico da Vara/ Ribeira do Guilherme, all their natural wealth and the conservation work carried out there for it is protection.

Short story "JAIME'S ADVENTURES"

Interactive story that encourages the students' participation to increase their knowledge about Priolo and its habitat. In addition to storytelling, it can be completed with painting activities, construction of Jaime's puppets, writting letters to Priolo and perfoming a play for its teachers and classmates.

Duration: 45 minutes.

Target audience: Preschool and 1st cycle.

Game “PICTIONARY DAS BIRDS/PLANTS DOS AZORES”

In a fun game, students are led to draw and discover the birds and plants of the Azores, learning playfully to recognize them and their main characteristics.

Duration: 45 minutes.

Target audience: 1st and 2nd cycle.

Lecture “THE PRIOLO AND THE ESCAPE FROM EXTINCTION”

Dynamic lecture adapted to the age of the students about the Priolo, the laurel forest and the threats to its conservation through the projects developed by SPEA. Students will be led to discuss in a simple way the actions and behaviors that help in the protection of Priolo and the importance of its preservation.

Duration: 45 minutes.

Target audience: 2nd and 3rd cycle.
