Seabirds are birds that live most of their lives at sea, however it is on land that they make their nests. As such, they are the most endangered group of birds in the world, facing threats at sea and on land. And it is our responsibility to do something to contribute to their conservation.
Lecture “SEABIRDs OF THE AZORES”
Lecture that makes known the seabirds of Azores, the threats they face and some conservation actions that are being developed and what we can do to help protect these species.
Duration: 45 minutes.
Target audience: 1st, 2nd, 3rd cycle and secondary classes.
Lecture “LIGHT POLLUTION: WHAT IS that?”
Theoretical lecture on the effects and consequences of light pollution, its impact on seabirds and what we can all do to mitigate this threat and restore the natural night sky. The activity can be complemented with a tour of the school/town, analyzing the existing luminaires (another 45 minutes) or with the installation of a photometer in the school to measure light pollution (Limited quantity: contact to assess availability and needs).

Lecture “ZERO WASTE, HOW TO DO IT?”
From the video presentation “Story of Stuff“, a class debate will be promoted on the problem of garbage and our current economy, which will be followed by an audiovisual explanation on Circular Economy and the 6Rs in which students will interact with students to reflect. about your actions and changes in habits.

Workshop “PLASTIC BEAUTY”

Game “THE GOLDEN TANGLE”

Students are invited to embody the character of a seabird in search of food, going through various obstacles due to the presence of marine litter, through a didactic game. Conducting an analysis by the students through the evaluation of the experiences of the obstacles created, with classification of the limitations found throughout the activity.

Outdoor activity “COASTAL CLEANING”

Students are invited to carry out a cleaning of a coastline or bathing area. The collected waste undergoes a selection process with weighing and identification. Throughout the activity, a debate is promoted on the types of waste found, the ways to reduce our waste production and our consumption habits. The cleaning results are then shared for monitoring marine litter in the Azores.
Duration: 2 hours and 30 minutes.
